CoderDojo restarting next Friday 17th January

Happy New Year everyone!!

We are looking forward to getting back to CoderDojo next Friday. It looks pretty booked up this week so if you have not registered yet you can get onto the waiting list and we will get back to you asap. You can register at

So next Friday we are going to do some basic Scratch tutorials with new starters and younger kids – thinking of a tennis like game which should be a bit of fun. We have also been looking at resources on the CoderDojo website and so we have some new more advanced tutorials from both Athenry and Waterford Dojo’s which look pretty awesome!! I will make all the tutorials available for download during the next few days.

Also for those avid MineCrafters that want to start getting much more into modding I would like to suggest taking a look at what Walter Higgins has done with ScriptCraft. It’s really cool and his accompanying tutorials are a great place to get started. It’s all here on GitHub so if you are interested it is definitely worth spending some time here.

And for those of you who are keen to do some app development, if you haven’t already take a look at AppInventor . AppInventor is developed by MIT who also developed Scratch. The installation is slightly cumbersome so its advisable to try to install it from home as we cannot put the full installer on USB keys. Just follow the steps as they are specified. Also you don’t need to own a smartphone or tablet as the application has a simulator included. AppInventor is a great place to get going on App Development.

So there should be something in there for everyone.

We would like to especially thank the Quality Hotel for their continuous support of CoderDojo Clonakilty and all our mentors and parents who help out in any way. We are as always looking for new mentors so if you know anyone that would be interested in helping out just email us.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday.

Margaret and Ann
